Laptop Factory Outlet goes into administration

Well-known Sydney retailer The Laptop Factory Outlet has gone into voluntary administration.

The company is run by directors Gerrard Ozguven and Harry Ozguven.

Gerrard confirmed that the business is no longer trading but otherwise declined to comment, adding that "today is not a very good day".

Riad Tayeh of insolvency firm deVries Tayeh was appointed as administrator on 7 July. The first meeting of creditors will be held on Wednesday.

CRN contacted a deVries Tayeh representative for further details on the case from the administrator.

The Laptop Factory Outlet, located at South Granville in western Sydney, still shows all the major PC vendors in its catalogue online and was a significant Acer reseller. The business also refurbished secondhand desktops and notebooks, and even sold mobile phones and televisions.

In 2011, the retailer agreed to pay $50,000 damages to Microsoft after it was found to have transferred certificates of authenticity from secondhand machines to new machines loaded with pirated software.
