Telco staff put on iPhone 5 blackout

US network Verizon has reportedly put its workers on a ten-day holiday ban from September 21st - the expected launch date of Apple's next-generation iPhone.

The telco's staff have been told no holidays are allowed for ten days until September 30, reports Tech Crunch.

The iPhone 5 is expected to be revealed and available for pre-order on September 12, and launch to the public for retail on September 21st.

Apple is yet to reveal details of its next-generation smartphone, but the device is expected to launch with a larger screen and thinner body than its predecessor, and compatability with US LTE 700MHz networks.

It is expected to introduce a 16:9-format widescreen retina display along with a smaller, redesigned dock connector, losing its traditional 30-pin port to make way for a newly-positioned headphone socket sitting alongside the port on the phone's underside.
