CSD sets sights on CCTV market

Security wholesaler Central Security Distribution (CSD) has picked up a contract with Mobotix as part of a push out of its traditional access control base.

CSD kicked off its expansion almost two years ago when it partnered with CCTV and security solutions vendor Dedicated Micros, and has since extended its reach into the CCTV market with Exacq, Acti, Lumina and today Mobotix’s range of IP-networked cameras.

CSD managing director Mark Cunnington said the company’s seven Australian branches offered Mobotix broader distribution.

“Mobotix has its distribution mainly through pure IT channels and IP providers,” he said. “We’re more of a mainstream security company that does a range of analogue and IP CCTV."

With access control the company’s mainstay, CSD’s focus has grown to incorporate both CCTV and alarms, currently counting 35 partners across the board. Cunnington said Mobotix’s ‘unique offering’ in the CCTV space was appealing.

“Mobotix is in CCTV and the IP section, and we think its products are appropriate for 60-70 per cent of our customer base,” he said.

Cunnington hinted at an upcoming expansion of CSD’s product range, focusing on storage and routers. He said customers could expect to see new products in partnership with global organisations being announced over the next six months.

He said the Mobotix partnership was a huge win for the company.

“There’s a real buzz about Mobotix in the market,” he said. “People are putting it into applications where traditionally there might have been analogue or older generation systems, and because it is a different way of doing things, Mobotix is finding its way into lots of applications where it might not traditionally have been.”

New Zealand hardware vendor SnapperNet was appointed Mobotix’s distributor to the New Zealand market.
