CSC inks "micro" data centre distie deal

IT services giant CSC has struck a distribution deal with the makers of a "micro data centre" that it says can reduce the need to co-locate kit in third-party facilities.

The micro data centre, made by Zellabox, claims to consolidate a server room of three metres by three metres into a "portable, self contained cabinet".

The cabinet has built-in access control and cooling systems and is being eyed by the transport and energy management industries for deployment to remote sites, according to CSC.

"Our clients are looking to save floor space in their remote server rooms to reduce capital expenditure," said Danny Willmott, director of CSC's managed computing services.

"We also have clients who can't prepare new space fast enough to meet current demands.

"Either way, the Micro Data Centre presents our client base with a unique opportunity that eliminates the need for a purpose built server room."

Metro Power Company in Western Australia has been named as one of the first customers.
