Paul Harapin, vice president A/NZ, VMware said the certification was a significant milestone for the virtualisation market and demonstrates the growth and adoption of the technology in Australia.
"Signing 1000 VMware professionals since opening our doors here five years ago is a clear measure of how Australia is quickly realising the benefits VMware's technology delivers," he said.
"The role that VCPs play is critical to enabling organisations to effectively deploy virtualisation technologies that drive cost reductions, enhance efficiencies and enable the attainment of Green IT goals by reducing carbon outputs.
"VMware Certified Professional is one of the highest levels of IT certification available to our customers and partners globally, and is a highly sought after qualification in the IT market today," he added.
VMware Certified Professional (VCP) Matthew Legg from Sun Microsystems became the first official VCP in 2004 while working on a major server consolidation involving 2700 physical units.
Dawes took part in the training course to advance his career in IT and to understand VMware's technology offering.
"Virtualisation is the clear way forward for Australian businesses in terms of utilising technology to get ahead," said Dawes.
"As VMware leads the industry, becoming a VCP was a natural choice to advance my career prospects in IT. The certification training is highly respected throughout the industry."
VCP applicants take part in four days of tutored training to complete the first stage of certification.
Once certified as a skilled VMware software user, participants are offered a chance to up-skill with further training.
Harapin said VMware will continue to develop training programs as the IT industry evolves and VMware technology develops.
"In line with the rapid growth in demand for virtualisation solutions across Australia and New Zealand, VMware continues to serve businesses and to meet the explosion in demand for skills in virtualisation technology by offering VCP certification courses and other leading virtualisation training programs," he added.
