According to Daniel Feldman, marketing and communications manager, Synnex Australia, one of the biggest challenges faced by Synnex is disposing CRT monitors without adversely affecting the environment.
“In the past we’ve stored them and sent them overseas. As more of our partners get rid of their CRT monitors and go LCD, we’ll recycle them for our resellers,” said Feldman.
Synnex has extended its Green policy to other sectors of the business. The distributor reuses boxes when shipping products to customers and implements internal environmentally friendly practices, such as monitoring the amount of paper used in printing.
“We reuse the boxes we get to distribute goods to resellers and in Melbourne and Sydney we also compact the cardboard,” said Feldman. “Internally we’re reducing the paper we use in printers, we’re very conscious of the amount of paper being used.”
Feldman claimed Synnex has been taking a Green approach for a number of years; however it wasn’t until environmental issues recently became a hot media topic that Australian businesses started to take notice of the distributor’s eco-friendly practices.
“We’ve been doing it [green] for quite some time. We’ve been storing CRT monitors before regulations were put in place and recycling has always been a big part of our philosophy,” said Feldman.
Synnex will continue on the Green path as it sees opportunities in being proactive in this arena. Feldman added the hype surrounding Green issues is encouraging the distributor to be more vocal about its efforts.
“We don’t make that much noise, the more we can do for the environment the more innovative we can become in the long term,” he said. “The Australian population is so aware; the environment is at the forefront of the public’s consciousness.”
