Synnex announces expansion plans

Synnex has announced that it is investing $2.5 million to expand its Melbourne headquarters and company owned truck fleet.

The expansion is required to house the 100 additional staff Synnex expected to employ in Melbourne over the next five years, the vendor said in the announcement.

It will also pave the way for facilities such as a training theatre and a larger boardroom.

As part of the investment, Synnex has spent $500,000 to add 12 trucks to its existing fleet bringing the total number of company owned trucks to 40.

The $2.5 million is part of a $20 million investment fund from the distie's Taiwan-based parent company Synnex-MiTAC Group to help develop infrastructure, logistics, business processes and e-commerce facilities over the next three to four years.

Last year, Synnex moved its Brisbane, Perth and Sydney offices to new, larger premises.

"It is important for us to invest in infrastructure to support our growth here in Australia and take a long term view of the future," said Kee Ong, CEO at Synnex Australia.

"We are committed to providing additional value-add services to our customers and have kept the cost of doing business down. We know that if we support our customers and help them to increase their market share, we will also grow," he said.

Meanwhile, this year alone, Synnex has signed distie partnerships with  Hybrid TV, the sole licencee for TiVo, NAVIGON AG, and Gateway, the PC vendor owned by Acer.

The new office is expected to accommodate 150 staff and work is due to start next week.
