According to Steve Dolan, there were two reasons for the merger. The first was because Logica has the skills of mobility technologies and the second was due to their relationship with industries, such as transportation and logistics which have adopted devices and applications.
Although Dolan would not comment on how much the deal was worth, the agreement was initially for a year.
"The contract does not have a dollar value as such. Rather, we have entered into this partnership with Logica because of our joint ability to generate significant sales opportunities in this fast-growing market," said Dolan.
“Sybase work with a number of mobility partners in Australia. But Logica is the first global SI that we have partnered with specifically to address the mobility market,” he added.
According to Sybase no other IT service firms were dropped as a result of the partnership. Dolan said it did work with a number of mobility partners in Australia but Logica is the first global SI that they partnered with to address the market.
Logica will offer Sybase’s mobility applications as part of its Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), supply chain and planning services, said Hugh Bickerstaff, managing director, Business Solutions, Logica, Australia.
“Our partnership with Sybase will benefit our customers who increasingly want more business value delivered by fewer strategic partners and who can serve them in all the markets in which they do business,” added Bickerstaff.
