SMS Management & Technology has signed an $8.7 million contract with the ACT Education Directorate to replace MAZE, which was provided by Civica Education.
The new system will consolidate several disparate systems and will be deployed across all 87 government schools within the territory. The new solution will be web-based and accessible to students, parents and staff.
SMS's system provides administration, timetabling and financial management tools. The solution is based upon the core Student Administration System from Sentral Education and Timetabling Solutions and is expected to be completed in 24 months.
The six-year contract includes SMS advisory, solutions and managed services as well as the provision of specialised third party software. SMS will also provide training, change and project management, and ongoing support services.
The contract allows for a four-year extension beyond the initial term.
The current system has 87 standalone instances providing services for 45,000 students.
SMS chief executive officer Rick Rostolis said: "We are delighted to be partnering with the ACT Education Directorate by providing a full end-to-end service in relation to this initiative.

ACT schools began switching to Google apps in August 2015 with support from Brisbane-headquartered Dialog IT. The move will see more than 20,000 students using Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and email for online learning and communication.
SMS revenue for the financial year of 2016 was $328.7 million, 8 percent lower than the previous year's $356.2 million.
