In its report 'Australia and New Zealand Secure Content Management Competitive Analysis 2008', IDC examines how SCM software vendors such as Symantec, McAfee, Trend Micro, Sophos and CA account for over 80 percent of the market, with the remaining 20 percent heavily fragmented.
The study also analyses Microsoft, which recently entered the SCM market.
Patrik Bihammar, senior analyst Security Solutions at IDC, said leading vendors continue to expand their offerings to differentiate themselves and remain competitive in the market.
He said these vendors are also investing in Information Protection and Control (IPC) solutions, to address growing business challenges concerning sensitive business information.
"To be successful in this highly competitive market, vendors need to not only address current security threats and challenges, but also constantly innovate and improve their offerings and go-to-market strategies,” said Bihammer.
“Specifically, key growth opportunities for vendors exist in IPC and Web security, as well as in offering hybrid security models, combining on-premise and services hosted in the cloud."
Bihammar claims the report has a Leadership Grid which evaluates the position of the key SCM vendors in A/NZ and provides insights to trends, developments and challenges.
