Roadhound, a Newcastle-based private distributor of technology brands, and Moorup, an Australian-owned company specialising in sustainable device lifecycle management, are launching a national trade-in and trade-up program for technology products, including smartphones, tablets, and more.
The initiative, scheduled to launch in Q2 2025, will offer independent telco and electronics retailers – including those in rural and regional areas – access to device upgrades.
Moorup will design and manage the platform, handling trade-in processing, reconditioning, and resale.
Roadhound will distribute this platform across Australia's independent reseller channel.
The initiative will also enable customers with older devices that are excluded from current trade-in or trade-up mechanisms to return their devices and receive reimbursement. These older devices will be refurbished and distributed to developing nations to help enhance their digital capabilities.
Other devices will be repurposed through government procurement programs.
Roadhound MD Ben Sharma said the partnership strengthens the trade-in ecosystem across Australia, making it easier for customers to upgrade, supporting vendor partners like Samsung and promoting a more sustainable approach to device upgrades.
"By providing a seamless trade-in solution, we’re helping retailers drive sales, retain customers, and contribute to reducing e-waste—creating value for everyone in the mobile/electronics industry in Australia,” he said.
“We are particularly excited about the enhancements it will offer our regional retail partners and their ability to get older devices sitting in homes back into circulation.”
Moorup CEO Brett Burgess said the partnership allows the two companies to bring a trade-in solution to businesses that may not have had access to structured programs before.
"Together, we’re helping retailers stay competitive, supporting strong upgrade cycles for vendors like Samsung, and advancing sustainability through a circular economy for mobile devices,” he said.
