The event, titled ‘Sexy’s Back’ was held at Sydney MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) to launch 30 new products including LCD monitors, projectors, notebooks and converged devices.
Philip Newton managing director, BenQ, said the roadshow was an ‘overwhelming success’ with more than 150 resellers who were entertained by Can-Can dancers and a magician.
“The roadshow marks a very important juncture for BenQ in the Australian market and clearly demonstrates the real value of the vertical and horizontal integration of BenQ’s own technologies,” he said.
Eric Kwon manager of Tri Benedict Software Engineering based in Newcastle, NSW, was one of the resellers who attended the launch.
“BenQ is known as an OEM manufacturer but it wants to get more of a market share in its own name. To become a major player it needs to get that presence. Perception is very important to BenQ and they are fast getting on track,” he said.
Bill Baye, who works for Ismet Ridha as a reseller for Compuparts said the event was a great opportunity to meet other resellers and preview the upcoming launch of products.
According to Newton, it has been 18 months since the BenQ R&D team switched back to its mainstream product categories and away from the Siemens acquisition.
“We are finally starting to see the fruits of their labour. We have gone back to basics and rediscovered the very values of BenQ and what it represents, our products need to be affordable, functional, technologically advanced, sexy and funky.
“All the products at the show reflect these first principals and design philosophies; it’s a very exciting time for BenQ and it can be felt right through our customer base,” he added.
Examples of its products include the new range of Full HD 1080p 16:9 monitors including three models of 22” and two models of 24”.
It also highlighted several Green products including a 16:9 HD 19” monitor that reduces mercury content by 50 percent and power consumption by 25 percent, a range of notebooks offering LED backlight and hybrid graphics systems that reduce mercury content to zero and power consumption greater than 30 percent.
“During the evening guests were given a sneak peak at some exciting new devices that will hit the market early in 2009 including the S6, a 5” LCD based Mobile Internet Device, the U101 10.2” LED backlight notebook and a range of Internet screens that combine PC, TV and LCD screen technologies into a single user friendly product that anyone can use irrespective of their level of computer skills,” said Newton.
“Overall our resellers and partners were ecstatic about the products on show and were honoured by the presence of both the president and vice president of the BenQ corporation who updated them on our global and regional progress.
“For BenQ and our customers, Sexy really is back,” he added.
