Microsoft is launching a new Office software package for the Mac platform.
Marketed as the "most compatible productivity suite on the Mac", Office for Mac 2011 features new co-authoring tools to improve remote collaboration on Word, PowerPoint or Excel files.
The suite was announced at the MacWorld conference and expo in San Francisco this week and will be commercially available later this year.
It was developed by Microsoft's Macintosh Business Unit (MacBU), based on customer feedback.
"Together with your team - officemates, family or classmates - you are part of the community that helps shape each version of Office for Mac," said Eric Wilfrid, MacBU general manager in a statement.
"You've told us that working together across platforms is a priority to you," he said.
Popular email software Outlook will also be included in Office 2011, replacing Microsoft's current offering, Entourage. It allows users to import .PST files from Outlook for Windows, and works with Apple's Spotlite search and Time Machine back-up service.
Office 2011 will also work with Microsoft Office Web Apps, to be accessed via a Windows Live ID account or on Microsoft SharePoint Technologies.
