IP security cameras could be the next boom for local resellers.
"The market for IP security in Australia is about $130 million," said Jason Rylands, national data centre architect for distributor DPSA.
"This is a massive opportunity for resellers – especially since over 90% of the install base of cameras are still analogue and will require changing to IP.
"We expect 15 percent growth per year," Rylands added.
DPSA recently signed an agreement to distribute Pelco IP security cameras.
IP security cameras can be integrated into existing networks, making it possible to tap into feeds from smartphones and even aggregate customer analytics.
"When a swipe card is used on a door, the camera actually looks at the person and can tell that the card matches that person."
Some IP security cameras recognise heat signatures to identify where in customers in retail stores spend most of their time.
"Traditionally [businesses] have gone through security integrators, but with the transformation from analogue security cameras to IP security cameras, they're finding the IT market is better suited to this product."
DPSA believes resellers can benefit three-fold from IP security camera sales: the initial sale of hardware, installation costs and from ongoing service.
"Small resellers can sell this kind of product right up to the large integrators. But large integrators haven't played too much in this space. It's generally been done by security integrators."
The agreement with Pelco marks the first time DPSA has ventured into an industry beyond data centre distribution and management. The privately owned company has averaged 27 percent growth per annum over the past three years and has more than 300 active reseller partners.
