Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has completed its acquisition of Juniper Networks, creating what the company describes as an industry-leading portfolio spanning AI-driven networking, hybrid cloud and enterprise technology.
The deal was first announced in January 2024, with HPE putting in an all-cash offer of US$14 billion.
At the end of June this year, the United States Department of Justice settled its anti-trust legal challenge against HPE.
Reuters reported that the settlement requires the combined company to divest HPE's Instant On wireless networking business and license the source code for Juniper's Mist AI software used in Juniper's Wireless Local Area Network products.
The deal doubles the size of HPE's networking business and positions the combined entity to capitalise on growing demand for AI infrastructure and modern network architectures.
HPE will now be a comprehensive networking provider with capabilities spanning silicon design through to software and services, all built around cloud-native and AI-driven approaches.
"Today begins a new era for HPE - we are now at the epicentre of the transformation of IT, where AI and networking are converging," Antonio Neri, chief executive of HPE, said.
The transaction gives HPE access to new markets including data centres, firewalls and routers, combining its enterprise security-first networking capabilities with Juniper's strength in data centre, service provider and AI-native solutions.
HPE expects the acquisition to accelerate customers' deployment and adoption of both hybrid cloud and AI technologies through its expanded research and development capabilities.
The transaction also advances HPE's strategic shift towards higher-margin, higher-growth business areas whilst expanding its total addressable market into adjacent technology sectors.
