Hong Kong bourse hacker faces five years

Police have today arrested a 29 year-old man for alledegly twice hacking the Hong Kong stock exchange.

The man was arrested in the Kwun Tong district and was charged with hacking into the stock exchange website, an attack which stopped trading of seven businesses including Cathay Pacific and HSBC.

Police seized five computers, and two mobile phones and storage devices, Hong Kong Tech News reported.

Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing reverted to a bulletin board system after the attack, and successfully repelled the second hacking attack that hit 24 hours later.

Police said the man faces a maximum five-year jail term.
