One of the world’s largest music companies, Universal Music has signed an exclusive agreement with Gold Coast based broadband, VoIP and mobile telco gotalk limited.
The deal will give Universal access to gotalk’s 35,000 phonecard retail and reseller network. gotalk will distribute Universal Music Content Cards throughout its national outlets including Coles, Australia Post, Kmart, Caltex, Harvey Norman, BP, Mobil, Dick Smith, Woolworths and many more.
This will be the first time Australian mobile phone users have had direct access to Universal’s vast music download catalogue of ringtones, wallpaper and Videotones. Announced late last week, the deal will be officially launched with a strictly ‘limited edition’ series of collectable cards featuring the popular international artists, Jay Z, Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna and Akon.
“Only 5,000 of each $10, $20 and $30 pre paid limited edition cards will be printed,” gotalk chief executive officer Steve Picton said today. “Some of the cards will be signed by the artist, which will make them collectable.
While all mobile phone users on all Australian networks will be able to purchase the content supplied by this service, gotalk customers will receive 40 percent discount on all content with charges as low as $2.39 per ringtone.
Gotalk has teamed with Personal Broadband Australia(PBA) – the licensed carrier that owns and operates the iBurst wireless broadband network –to launch Australia’s first prepaid wireless broadband service.
The new service is available in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide.
Under the prepaid broadband arrangement, customers need no contract and simply pay for what they use from 11.5 cents per Megabit (Mb). In addition, the new service comes with a free dialup account, free broadband voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) account and a VoIP soft phone. Customers taking up gotalk prepaid wireless broadband service can bring their own iBurst hardware or buy directly from gotalk (from a choice of USB, PCMCIA or desktop modems).
The gotalk iBurst wireless broadband offers the fastest available speeds at 1Mb/345 with no speed throttling said Picton.
