Geek IT are looking to launch a range of accessories including mobile phone clips, cases and laptop bags later this year.
Geek IT founder, Mary Henderson (pictured), knows the IT accessory market well, having previously worked with Belkin before leaving in 2005 to found Geek IT. She has also worked in the channel for Tech Pacific – before it was purchased by Ingram Micro.
Henderson told CRN that the accessories are not in the same market as Belkin bags and are more for "status driven" consumers. “These are different products outside of Belkin and Targis, who know and do their markets very well,” she said.
“Lap-top bag prices start from $69.95 and resellers are looking at 40 percent floor margin. I want a reseller that understands customers who purchase IT as a fashion accessory, that’s why I don’t want the products sold through any retailer,” she said.
According to Henderson, Geek IT employs an in-house design team, with all products manufactured in China.
“If I get a request for a special order from a reseller I want to make sure a design team is at hand to draw up the product, which means we can then get samples and orders out quickly,” she said.
