Civica’s managing director, Peter Anderson, told CRN that the acquisition includes Fujitsu’s existing local authorities’ customer base, intellectual property rights to Fujitsu’s local authority software applications, and all associated assets.
"The negotiations were back and forth for three months and we straight out purchased Fujitsu's local authorities' customers, employees and software," he said. "We have been working with each other for a couple of years and had a good relationship."
Anderson said both organisations mutually felt that Civica was the right fit for Fujitsu's local authorities business. He said: "Fujitsu has reinvented its business model and that part of the business wasn’t as synchronised with the rest of the business, the vendor was aware that we specialise in providing solutions to local government".
Anderson claimed Fujitsu’s 60-plus local authority customers in Australia and New Zealand will strengthen Civica's position as a local supplier to this sector and provide an opportunity to build its presence in the New Zealand local government market.
Anderson said Civica’s Australian operations will expand to include the existing Fujitsu premises in Orange, New South Wales and a new office will be established in Auckland, New Zealand.
Civica will also consolidate its two existing Sydney offices at Hurstville and North Sydney into a new regional corporate headquarters at Mascot later this month.
“Civica’s premises in Newcastle and Melbourne have been expanded recently to cater for an increase in staff at those locations. Currently, Civica employs around 300 staff throughout Australia and New Zealand,” he said.
Civica has around 250 local government customers in Australia and New Zealand using the company’s software and services, claimed Anderson. In the last financial year, Civica gained substantial new clients including Fairfield, Wollondilly and Leeton Councils and the Sydney Catchment Authority in NSW.
Anderson said existing sites include Council's in Tasmania, Western Australia and Victoria and Falls Creek Management in Victoria. The company employs 300 staff across offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, Orange, Adelaide and Perth.
Civica Australia is a fully owned subsidiary of Civica Group PLC, a leading global software provider to the Public Sector, with revenues in excess of $300 million. Globally, Civica provides software, consulting and managed services to more than 1,700 public sector customers and employs more than 1,300 staff.
