Aussie channel boss hired by flash storage vendor
Jason Finlayson

US-based enterprise flash storage vendor Fusion-io has recruited former Brocade channel sales manager Jason Finlayson as its new national partner manager for ANZ.

"I was looking for a new challenge," Finlayson told CRN. "I'd been working in the networking game for a very long time – but in my early days at Tech Pacific I was in the storage business and that was an exciting time for me."

Traditionally the vendor produced in-server storage products for OEMs, but the acquisition of NexGen this time last year added standalone storage appliances to its range – and that has triggered the impetus for channel development.

Fusion-io president for Asia-Pacific and Japan Charlie Foo told CRN that those appliances are targeted at SMBs, leading the vendor to the channel.

"Educating [the channel] about the virtues of flash memory technology will be key," said Foo. "With things like big data [the market] needs flash memory."

Finlayson told CRN that a new partner program is expected in the next quarter.

Fusion-io is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah and posted revenue of over US$430 million last year. The company's most famous employee is Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple, who has been chief scientist since 2008.

"You can work for an established organisation that's already been there and done that," said Finlayson."But to be part of something that's on an upward curve is a good challenge to have."
