David Merlino,
Owner, IT Solutions & Service
Our company was established in 2004, so we will be celebrating 10 years this June. We currently have four staff.
I run IT Solutions & Service with [my brother], Daniel. We cover all activities in the IT industry and work with vendors such as IBM, Lenovo, Microsoft, Lexmark, Epson, HP, Netgear, Seagate and Attaché. Our major distributors are Ingram Micro, Dicker Data, Synnex and Avnet. Some of our recent projects have included implementing a number of networks in a small timeframe as well as new server migrations and upgrades.
The areas of the business that are growing most is the servicing side as well as networking. We have worked to maintain selling the same products and services and making sure our clients are satisfied with the products and services they receive from us, no matter how big or small they are. One of the pros of being in regional Australia is that we as a business have become diverse – we’re involved in a number of areas in the IT industry, which broadens the knowledge. One of the drawbacks is that clients request more of you and require things done straight away.
James Howell
Director, Professional Data Kinetics
I established Professional Data Kinetics - PDK – in 24 January 2012 and we currently employ five staff.
Our main areas of business include cloud solutions, which is focused around our own managed virtual desktop service and Office 365. We offer IT support for small to medium businesses, catering to system design, networking, hardware procurement and server-based technologies, including Sharepoint and Microsoft Exchange.
We also have website development capability, ranging from CMS-based websites through to custom-developed projects. PDK has a strong vendor relationship with Microsoft, Alcatel and Dell and works closely with Telstra to supply Office 365 capabilities.
Our major distributors are Dell, Ingram Micro, Dicker Data and Avnet. Our strongest growth has been in cloud services. Businesses are looking for opportunities to spread the cost of IT and also have flexible solutions that allow them to remain current with new technologies. Businesses are also looking for greater flexibility in connecting multiple sites, which is especially common in regional areas.
Tom Atkinson
Store manager, Computer Dencity
Computer Dencity was established in 1996. We have seven staff: four technicians, two salespeople and one marketing coordinator. Mark Stanford is the director.
Our major vendors are Toshiba, ASI Solutions, Brother and Kyocera. On the distribution front, we also use Ingram Micro, Synnex, Anyware and Multimedia Technology.
Our main focus is proactive managed services; business support services is the fastest-growing part of the company, in particular our managed service offering. The challenge is around transitioning break/fix customers to proactive servicing. In the past year, we’ve been offering new services such as bonded ADSL, virtual private networks and large-scale wireless hotspots for hotels.
Wagga is a very tight-knit community, so when we provide a great service, word spreads and we receive referral business. We are also one of a few that offer proactive management service contracts.
We have been part of the Leading Edge Group for many years and were recently offered a place in Leading Edge’s group of elite stores, the Business Solutions Group.
