Queensland distributor inTechnology has become the exclusive Australian channel for cloud encryption vendor nCrypted Cloud, launching the product to resellers today.
"We had some requests from customers who knew about nCrypted so we started looking at it," said inTechnology Distribution's managing director Mark Winter. "And we did heavy due diligence before bringing it on. We spent about three months at the evaluation stage."
US vendor nCrypted Cloud – one of CRN's "11 future technologies you need to understand now" from earlier this year – only launched its enterprise product in January. The software acts as a security and administration layer sitting between users and cloud services such as Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive.
Winter confirmed to CRN that encryption is effective for the entire lifecycle of the file, including at rest within the cloud.
Security specialist channel partners will be the initial target market for nCrypted.
"The guys who mentioned the product to us initially are all very focused on security," said Winter. "However, partners who provide hosted solutions could be interested in the longer term as protection can also be applied to private clouds, using the same technology."
"It's one tool for all the different clouds – a single methodology for home and corporate, regardless of where the data is sitting."
He told CRN that the vendor already had some direct business in Australia "without much effort" but has reached a point now where a distributor was needed. On his side, inTechnology identified a need to build a cloud portfolio.
"The relationship came along just at the right time for both sides."
Winter said that inTechnology would like "to start a dialogue" with any channel player that's "providing or managing cloud services".
The Gold Coast value-added distributor was founded in 1999 and lists Acronis, Silent Circle and Juniper Networks among its other vendors.
