ASI rolls out network project at double time

Systems integrator ASI has won a support contract to provide Brocade technology to internet exchange Megaport in order to deliver its 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) network across the Asia Pacific.

Under the agreement, ASI Solutions will implement Brocade MLXe Ethernet platforms to underpin Megaport's "hyper-scalable interconnection fabric', which delivers on-demand networking with speeds up to 100Gbps and allows users to connect with multiple service providers via just one Ethernet interface.

The deployment makes it possible to manage multiple customers through a single virtualised cross-connect cable in a data centre, Megaport chief operating officer Jason Sinclair said.

Sinclair praised ASI for its quick deployment: "Megaport had an aggressive schedule. ASI's rollout took less than half of what it would typically take."

Sinclair said the solution would be able to transfer data up to ten times quicker than other Australian carriers.

"The market works at a one-to-ten gigabit level. We're entering the market at 100Gbps."

Megaport is aiming to align its telecommunications offering with the pricing model used in cloud computing - offering a daily pro-rata rate with no lock-in or contract

He said the communications company will resell its offering to channel partners.

"If a system integrator doesn't have a partnership, say with Amazon, then we'll take care of the end user and the billing."

Since its launch in July the company has amassed more than 80 customers and they have connected 14 data centres.

Sinclair said Megaport will continue to expand its interconnect reach, and would launch in Singapore in February.
