Manaccom company co-founder shown the door

Software distributor Manaccom has terminated company co-founder James Mackay from his consultant position.

Mackay informed all of the distributor's partners, retailers, developers and vendors via email.

"[Last Friday], my employment with Manaccom was terminated, by email," wrote Mackay.

"I was given three hours notice and was therefore unable to write to you from my Manaccom email address, for which I apologise."

Mackay went on to write that the distributor was for many years a Mackay-family company, having started in his bedroom in 1986.

"My father resigned from the company recently and while no reason was given for my termination I can only assume it's a personal issue," he wrote.

The termination followed Mackay's decision to step down as CEO in April 2008.

At the time, CRN reported his decision to stay on at the distie in a consulting capacity was for a short period and as a non-executive director 

Mackay's father, Ian Mackay, took over his role as acting CEO and resumed a leadership role.

However a Final Director's Interest Notice posted on the company's ASX listing showed Mackay senior ceased to be a director on the 29th October 2009.

Mackay stated he will be leaving the software and IT industry and won't be looking for other opportunities in the area - "unless someone wants to pay [me] a lot of money."

Mackay urged clients to contact Mike Veverka, CEO of Manaccom Limited (the distie's parent company), to introduce themselves and their company.

"Now is the perfect time for you to establish a new relationship, to send a recent price list or business idea, and to cement new business opportunities," stated Mackay.

In his parting words Mackay said, "It has been a pleasure working with you all over the past 15 years that I have been with Manaccom and I wish you well for the future".

Mackay concluded the email by stating the "next few years will certainly be interesting for the industry. Good luck!"

In June 2007, ASX-listed Australian e-commerce company Jumbo Corporation acquired Manaccom, a specialist software publishing and distribution business with contracts to supply major retail chains including Harvey Norman, Dick Smith, JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks.
