Thin client and virtualisation firm Wyse has released a beta version of its PocketCloud application for Android handsets, designed to provide remote desktop control and access to virtualised desktop infrastructures.

Wyse already offers a version of the app for Windows 7, as well as iPhones and iPads. The Wyse PocketCloud beta is available now through the Android app store.

"Today's professionals are already on call 24/7, so it's gratifying to hear from so many Wyse PocketCloud users how their jobs are made easier and more convenient with our app," said Daniel Barreto, chief software architect at Wyse.

"Wyse PocketCloud is becoming an essential tool for the modern-day professional. We are now extending the unique capabilities of Wyse PocketCloud in light of the explosive growth in Android-based mobile platforms."

The PocketCloud application offers enterprises mobile remote desktop control from a centralised location, and links into an existing VMware View environment. The firm said that by rolling it out onto Android-based handsets, it would let firms add enterprise level security features.

"VMware View transforms desktop management into a simplified and automated process, and provides end users a consistent high-performance desktop experience from any device," said Srinivas Krishnamurti, senior director, mobile solutions, VMware.

"We are excited about Wyse PocketCloud for Android because the combination of VMware View and Wyse PocketCloud for Android now enables users to access their Windows desktops from any Android phone to experience a true anytime, anywhere proposition."
