TPG email systems go down again

TPG email systems are experiencing another unplanned outage.

According to its service status page, the telco said both its email and Advanced Post Office services were both hit by an outage today at 10:40am AEST today (September 2nd), but has not specified if it is directly related to the same outage last week.

TPG’s Twitter account confirmed the second outage.

TPG was hit by an email outage last week, with the telco claiming the issue began on Wednesday, 28 August at 4:30pm. The company said the service was restored on Friday, 30 August at 9:29pm.

Posting on TPG’s Community page, a community manager said the outage was caused by “a failure affecting the storage system through which the email systems operate”, and was not related to any security issue.

“We understand the frustration and inconvenience caused to our valued customers by this outage,” the community post read.

“The TPG engineering team has been working around the clock to solve the issues and it is believed that all customers should, in stages over the next 24 hours, be able to send and receive emails.

“Work is also being done to bring older emails online and updates will be provided as that work progresses. TPG apologises for any inconvenience.”

TPG also said chariot.net.au email addresses (from Adelaide-based subsidiary Chariot) were also affected.

The message was echoed in its Twitter account responding to user complaints on the site.

CRN has reached out to TPG multiple times for comment and more details on the outage but have not responded as of publishing. We'll update the story as we hear more.

Updated 4:50pm 2 September: TPG service status said as of 2:55pm, more users are now able to access their emails. Estimated restoration has been pushed back to 5pm.
