TPG outage affecting emails since Wednesday

TPG has confirmed that a network outage has been affecting email users since Wednesday.

According to its service status page, the issue began around 4:30pm Wednesday, 28 August 2019, and is expected to be resolve the outage by 5pm on Friday 30 August.

However, customers have been reporting issues on Twitter as early as 1pm Wednesday, with TPG at first expecting to restore services on the same day. Some CRN readers also claimed the issue may have happened as early as Monday, 26 August.

TPG hasn't said which Australian cities were affected, but data from Downdetector.com.au revealed the issue has largely affected the major east coast cities and Adelaide, with some reports coming from Perth.

A community manager said on Thursday that customers of wholly-owned Adelaide-based subsidiary Chariot were also affected.

“TPG Engineering is working round the clock towards a resolution. Based on customer comments, we wanted to answer a few common question (sic). This outage is not related to any security issue,” the manager said.

“We are confident that after the outage is resolved there will be no loss of emails. The root cause has been found and multiple solutions are being worked on to achieve the resolution in the quickest possible way.”

“Thanks for the patience and we definitely understand the frustration this outage is causing and we apologise for the inconvenience.”

CRN has reached out to TPG for further details on what caused the outage. We’ll update the story once we hear back.
