David Stewart, managing director at NetComm, told CRN that the vendor had announced to the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) that it had entered into such an agreement with Telstra as part of its continual disclosure of information to the ASX.
“It’s quite daunting to work with such a potentially large customer. [Telstra] is a large beast because it’s such a large organisation, but we are very excited and looking forward to supplying the broadband router products it needs,” he said.
According to Stewart, although there was no actual order as yet, one was imminent and as NetComm progresses further with Telstra, more details will emerge.
“At this time we have no physical supply contracts as yet. The agreement that we have signed with Telstra sets out the framework for such a supply,” he said.
Stewart claimed its win with Telstra was the result of hard work and good salesmanship. The discussions between the two Australian IT and telco companies have been in progress for a long time.
“We have had many discussions and testing opportunities with the telco. In these types of situations sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t. While there’s no formal order as yet, there is a high probability of supply getting signed off soon and it’s all part of due process,” said Stewart.
According to Stewart there’s no monetary value on the contracts and no end date. The monetary value will be in the supply of products Telstra orders from NetComm.
“The contract both parties have signed lays out the terms of conditions of supply and fulfilment obligations - behind the scenes stuff. When Telstra goes into orders for products and those products will have the monetary value. The contract will be ongoing, but there are no guarantees and Telstra is not obligated to solely rely on us for the supply of products,” said Stewart.
