Q&A: SuiteCloud Connect for SAP

CRN: What is SuiteCloud Connect for SAP
SuiteCloud Connect for SAP is a new integration offering designed for divisions of large companies that run SAP ERP applications like R/3 globally.

SuiteCloud Connect for SAP allows these lines-of-business to integrate NetSuite's on-demand business suite (i.e. the NetSuite Cloud) to SAP running at the parent organisation (i.e. the SAP "Cloud").

These divisions can now use NetSuite OneWorld for SAP to manage all of their multi-national, multi-subsidiary operations, then roll up financial transaction and summary data to the parent company with SuiteCloud Connect to gain a complete enterprise-wide view of all divisional business operations.

Key benefits include:

Companies get all the cost savings of a SaaS Suite at the divisional level while still leveraging their investment in SAP at the corporate level.

Divisions of larger companies often need more business process flexibility and customisation to match their more nimble operations, so they can now turn to NetSuite for a solution.

SuiteCloud Connect synchronises financial data between the divisional and parent organisations, including transaction and revenue data, AP, AR, budgeting, and much more, and provides complete visibility into all customer activity.

SuiteCloud Connect for SAP is based on industry-standard integration and data migration technologies, including SOAP/Web Services, JavaScript, ODBC, and CSV.

The APIs are designed for integrating NetSuite OneWorld with other third-party ERP systems.

CRN: You announced NetSuite OneWorld last year, why NetSuite OneWorld for SAP now
The release of NetSuite OneWorld for SAP is timely given the increasing popularity of SaaS-based business systems like NetSuite for divisions and subs of larger companies that use SAP to manage global operations.

These divisions just don't need the complexity of SAP, so they turn to NetSuite. The success of NetSuite OneWorld is a reflection of NetSuite's move up-market, as we continue to sell to larger organisations.

In Q4 2008, NetSuite OneWorld accounted for about one-third of all new NetSuite deployments.  We are seeing a growing number of prospects and customers who are divisions of large companies that use SAP.

CRN: NetSuite takes a suite approach, why best of breed now
For most companies using this integration, it's not a matter of using a "best of breed" solution, but rather "suite-to-suite" integration between a corporate parent and smaller division.

Customers can use NetSuite ERP, CRM and E-commerce and still integrate with the parent companies financial operations.

In other cases where customers use only one component of NetSuite (like ERP or CRM), they are trying to address their near term business issues first and evolve to a suite over time as needed.

This approach requires ensuring NetSuite integrates with other systems that the customer has invested in such as SAP.

CRN: Did you build the Connector
Based on extensive work with customers, NetSuite built the connector offering by combining industry-standard web-services APIs, NetSuite's own NS-BOS development platform, and professional services best practices.

CRN: Do you have any customers that are using this? If so, please name a few
We have several customers either using the integration now or in the process of implementation. Some of them will be available to speak after they go live.

CRN: Do you think SAP will react negatively towards this? If so, why
We believe that SAP recognises the value of this integration for divisions and subsidiaries of its large customer base.

NetSuite OneWorld for SAP validates the interoperability of two powerful ERP systems, one designed for larger multinational enterprises and the other designed for its smaller subsidiaries and divisions that prefer a SaaS-based operational model that provides more flexibility and customisation for unique operational requirements.

Many organisations, large and small, leverage software solutions from different vendors based on the needs of the specific business unit.
