Optus is refocusing its efforts on the SMB market in an effort to turn 126 stores into small business specialist outlets.
The stores will staff a trained dedicated business specialist within existing Optus retail stores to cater specifically to SMB customer's needs
Alongside its existing 26 business centres, the telco will also open a dedicated SMB support centre in Adelaide. The call centre team will provide billing, technical support on-boarding and help with expansion.
Managing director Rob Parcell said Optus wants to be Australia’s small business support network.
“We know that small and medium business operators face a unique set of business challenges, and that the products and services available to them are not always tailored for their needs. We’re focusing on changing that.”
He added that Optus has introduced new premium support services for small businesses.
“Many SMB operators are time-poor and want access to quality service around the clock. Whilst many are happy to visit our stores for a fast transaction off-the-shelf, we know others require a premium level of service to help them grow and we’re committed to delivering that.”
Optus’ parent company Singtel last week reported revenue for its Australian enterprise business was up to $1.57 billion for the 2016 financial year. The ICT and managed services business alone, which includes Optus Business, grew 11.4 percent to hit $607 million.
Optus recruited Australian Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe as the face of its SMB campaign, and will be the first stage of a whole-of-business ambassador program.
“As a former athlete, I’m excited to partner with the team at Optus as they work to deliver game-changing experiences for their customers,” said Thorpe.
“I’m especially looking forward to forging a strong relationship with Optus as it delivers more sports and entertainment content.”
