IT salary growth was restrained this financial year with 58 percent of employers increasing pay packets by only three to four percent, according to the latest report from IT recruiter Hays.
The impact on salaries in the IT market was quite restrained despite the skills shortage and lack of skilled IT personnel, Hays said.
Peter Noblet, regional director of Hays IT, said while the focus was on the need for candidates, nobody was guaranteed an instant job offer, with an increase in salary.
“The impact on salaries in most locations and disciplines was still notably restrained considering the skills shortage. A candidate in demand still needs to be the right candidate with the right skills or potential,” said Noblet.
He said salaries have increased steadily, but not to the same extent experienced between 1999 and 2001.
The survey also showed that 25 percent of employers increased by less than three percent.
Some 13 per cent of employers raised salaries by up to 10 per cent and four per cent lifted salaries by more than 10 per cent.
The survey also showed the average salary earning for business development managers in NSW was $110,000 per annum, while NSW based IT managers earned $135,000 and CIOs received $250,000.
Noblet claims companies have taken control of salary movements and are rewarding high achievers on a one-on-one basis, instead on increasing salaries across the board.
Hays surveyed 1700 employers in Australia and New Zealand.
