The storage solution from Data Islandia enables multinational organisations to address the environmental issues surrounding increasing data volumes. The flow-on benefit for Hitachi's Australian partners is the opportunity to offer similar archiving processes to their customers.
“This is a great example of how a partner can leverage Hitachi technology as a service,” said Tim Smith, senior marketing manager A/NZ, Hitachi. “They have identified an issue in the marketplace – how to manage the growth of data in a cost effective manner for the customer.”
According to Smith, there are several financial benefits to server and storage consolidation that will influence the growth of data management services in the region.
“Business can better utilise their resources with the right archival/storage policies in place,” said Smith. “For every 10 terabytes used in an organisation, there is the potential for a $1 million capital and operating saving.”
Data Íslandia has made an impact in the storage market by removing archived data from the corporate network and cost-effectively storing it on disk, which has significant environmental benefits.
“Organisations are focused on making their data centres more efficient, but virtualising six-month old information, which is effectively digital toxic waste, is a very poor use of resources. Instead, they should be looking to completely remove this data from the corporate network,” said Sol Squire, executive member of the Board of Directors and chief business development officer, Data Íslandia.
Hitachi's Content Archive Platform as the core digital indexing and archival platform will form the basis of Data Islandia's offering.
