Given the current proposal to mandate PIN authorisation of credit card transactions from 2014, the combination of wireless EFTPOS terminals with POS systems could become even more convenient for staff and customers alike.
For example, Givex's Vexilor POS system is used on tablets, allowing sales staff in retail shops to get out from behind the counter (if you want to see how effective that can be, visit an Apple Store) and waiters to use it at a table in a restaurant.
We mention this because EFTPOS provider Tyro Payments has found another partner in the POS market - its service is now integrated with the Vexilor cloud-based POS system.
Jessica Ellerm, business development manager at Tyro claims the company's EFTPOS service can save a small business thousands of dollars a year. How?
- through reduced card processing fees
- direct integration with a wide range of POS systems to eliminate the need for intermediate software
- productivity improvements as sales staff are not required to enter the transaction amount into the EFTPOS terminal.
Ellerm said "wait staff [can] remotely access a table's bill from the Vexilor POS via the EFTPOS terminal while they are at the table with the customer. We call this our Pay@Table feature. Wait staff can then offer the customer the option to split the bill, tip and pay all from the comfort of the table."
Tyro already processes EFTPOS transactions for around 8,000 Australian businesses through integrations with around 100 POS systems (including Kounta and Vend) aimed at a range of market segments. These include retail, hospitality, salons and medical businesses.
