In its first days on the market, the Motorola Droid X handset appears to be enjoying success.
Primary carrier Verizon is pushing availability of web orders back to 3 August, while multiple reports indicate that many retail locations in the US have sold out of the handset.
The reports could indicate a successful debut for the Droid X. The follow-up to the successful Droid handset was launched on 16 July in the US through telco carrier Verizon.
The Droid X launch also comes amidst publicity headaches for one of the handset's primary competitors. Apple is hoping to settle issues over the antenna hardware on its iPhone 4. The company issued a programme to provide users with free 'bumper' cases to prevent interference from contact with human hands.
While Apple shares were down slightly on Monday, industry analysts have suggested that the saga will have little effect on the company in the long, while some pundits are chalking up the ordeal as a public relations win for Apple.
The reports also come amidst a time of transition for handset manufacturer Motorola. The company on Monday agreed to sell off its wireless infrastructure assets to Nokia Siemens Networks.
