Apple chief executive Steve Jobs has apparently confirmed that the firm will not be offering support for its iPhone 2G, in a terse reply to a customer's email.
A German user with the Twitter handle @Ven000m emailed Jobs and asked: "Hey Steve! Is Apple supporting/updating the iPhone 2G in the future?" Jobs replied: "Sorry, no."
The customer subsequently posted a screenshot of the email reply and email source code on Twitter to verify its authenticity.
V3.co.uk asked Apple for confirmation of the contents of the email but had received no reply at the time of publication.
Jobs's response is not that surprising as the Apple chief has a history of sending brief replies to customer emails.
The news comes a week after Apple announced its fourth-generation iPhone operating system that it said features new multi-tasking capabilities to allow users to run multiple third-party apps at the same time.
However, Apple also confirmed that iPhone 3GS and iPod touch models released before late 2009 will not be able to take advantage of the multi-tasking updates.
Apple's iPhone 2G was released in 2007 as the first incarnation of the firm's hugely successful smartphone.
