Four hot products for education resellers

This article appeared in the October issue of CRN magazine alongside this feature: "How resellers can cash in on school tech turmoil"

1. Apps

Verso, which is backed by ASI Solutions, is just one example of how forward-thinking app developers are targeting schools. Another app includes Canvas, which provides online calendars, access to assignments and files, and lets teachers provide feedback on assignments via the app. Canvas also includes an analytics feature.

2. 3D printers

It is early days for 3D printing in schools, but several companies are showing interest in the market. Earlier this year, Leading Edge Computers signed a reseller agreement for Makerbot 3D printers. At the time, a representative cited design students in schools among the places they expected to see demand. Victorian company 3D Group is also eyeing schools. “By furnishing every classroom with access to their own 3D printer and software, we can give our students the power to challenge the world,” states the 3D Group website.

3. Interactive projectors

Dell and Epson are just two vendors pushing interactive projectors, which allow teachers to do away with electronic whiteboards. As well as features like 10-point touch with Dell’s S520, projectors allow very wide display areas – up to 96 inches diagonally in the case of Epson’s EB-455Wi.

4. 802.11ac

As more pressure is put on wireless networks, various schools are upgrading to solutions that utilise the new wi-fi standard. Computelec is just one reseller who has benefited, installing 100 access points for the Glennie School, a private Anglican day and boarding school for girls in Toowoomba, Queensland. Other resellers with wireless wins include Matrix CNI and Invotec.
