Damn those Telstra dudes. Now it will be available on NextG, and it will probably work rather well, since the iPhone has the right frequencies for the “rural and regional” network. The thing might even get a “blue tick”. No, that’s not something that bites cows – it simply means your phone can get a signal from underneath an overturned tractor.

Curses. We’re going to have to admit that the iPhone is tempting. Everyone really does want an all-in-one device rather than four or five gadgets to carry around, but previous attempts have been so bad, and based on Windows CE mostly, that we’ve all concluded it isn’t possible.

But Apple thinks it is possible, because the company pays zero attention to what anyone else is doing or has already done. Sometimes this bites them on the bum, with the release of clever toys that don’t really take off until they look around and see what people really want.

But most of the time the company ends up on a winner by avoiding the obviuos “impossibility” of their endeavours.

Anybody want to buy a perfectly good Samsung flip-phone, barely a month old? It’s got the blue-tick and everything. But it just isn’t cool.

Damn those Telstra dudes.
