Microsoft is retiring its Windows Analytics suite of cloud services on 31 January 2020 in favour of the new Desktop Analytics suite unveiled just two months ago.
Windows Analytics is a set of three solutions that offers users data on their devices to determine operational status of devices running Windows.
The suite is comprised of three solutions: Device Health for identifying crashes or other issues within Windows, Update Compliance for staying on top of Windows updates, and Upgrade Readiness and planning and managing application and driver compatibility during Windows updates.
The suite will be replaced by Desktop Analytics, a similar solutions suite previewed in July 2019 that rolls Windows Analytics’ capabilities into a single solution managed from the Azure Portal. Microsoft’s principal program manager lead Albert Cabello Serrano called Desktop Analytics the “evolution” of Windows Analytics in a blog post.
“In the weeks since, we’ve seen incredible adoption – as of today, Desktop Analytics is being used by hundreds of customers to keep nearly two million Windows devices up-to-date,” said Serrano.
When Desktop Analytics goes live in a few weeks, new customers will no longer be able to use Upgrade Readiness or Device Health. However customers will still be able to use Update Compliance from the Azure Portal even after 31 January 2020.
Eligible customers (those with an active Azure subscription and Office 365 service) can now migrate their existing Windows Analytics workspaces and administrator data to Desktop Analytics.
“Once you complete the onboarding steps in the portal and finish the device enrollment wizard in Configuration Manager, your existing data will be automatically moved to your new Desktop Analytics workspace. This process typically completes within about 24 hours,” Serrano wrote.
