The event called 'Solutions for Change' started in Perth this week and will continue until 13th March, finishing in Melbourne, taking in the major cities across Australia.
The aim is for IBM to share its strategies for change with business partners and customers in regional areas of the country set against the backdrop of the economic crisis.
According to Andrew Baker, director of Global Business Partners for IBM A/NZ, the company wants to take advantage of the slowdown in terms of innovation and change.
He said IBM is focusing on its partners, moving more towards sales through regional business partners for example, IBM ISS which is currently changing route to market by selling through partners.
"We have a number of business partner specific strategies this year which is to focus on education and enablement," he said.
"The focus last year on enablement saw some very significant growth in terms of business partner take up. Enabled business partners who became completed their certification saw their revenue grow in double digits.
"I think this is important at the moment because as the market tightens up there will be a race to provide skilled specialist capability to clients," added Baker.
"The partner with the highest skill levels will thrive, whilst those without will struggle.
"This is an important initiative right now that is why we're broadening our focus beyond sales and technical to include a strong mid market solutions focus in areas like optimisation, security and business continuity.
"We are also adding a fourth discipline which is business management and marketing which is tuned to the economic environment we are working in," said Baker.
