Australian technology services provider ASE has appointed Jonathan Staff as group chief revenue officer, recruiting the senior executive from ASX-listed Macquarie Technology Group where he led the private cloud division.
Staff brings over 20 years of experience in cloud infrastructure, managed services and commercial leadership to the role.
The appointment comes as ASE seeks to position itself as an alternative to hyperscale cloud providers amid growing concerns about costs, sovereignty and artificial intelligence workload requirements.
ASE powers critical infrastructure across Australia's major industries, providing technology for the nation's largest energy generators, logistics companies, and major ports in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
"Jonathan has built an impressive track record of success over a long career and will bring a strong customer focus, experience in leading high performing teams and a results-driven approach that will continue to help us deliver even greater value to our customers," Andrew Sjöquist, founder and chief executive officer, said.
"With AI demand accelerating faster than global infrastructure can support it, Australian businesses need partners who understand their specific requirements, not just generic cloud services."
Sjöquist referred to what he said is a fundamental shift in how Australian enterprises think about technology.
"The one-size fits-all hyperscale model is hitting limits," he said.
"Costs are spiralling, sovereignty concerns are real, and AI workloads need more flexible, localised compute options."
Staff views the managed technology and security services market as ripe for disruption, with customers demanding greater choice and innovation.
"The managed technology and security services market is ripe for disruption," Staff said.
"Customers demand more choice and innovation, and ASE delivers. I'm excited to bring that value to more Australian businesses."
ASE was founded in 2000, and employs over 100 engineers, architects, and operators. It focuses on cloud, cybersecurity and critical infrastructure needs.
