Brennan named top IT security provider by AusCERT

Brennan IT has been named the Australian Cyber Emergency Response Team's (AusCERT) 2018 member organisation of the year.

The award recognises the organisation that had fixed the largest percentage of vulnerabilities and incidents reported by AusCERT through its security incident notifications.

AusCERT is a not-for-profit group based within the University of Queensland that provides information security advice to its members as a single point of contact to handle security incidents in Australia.

“This award wasn’t decided by a vote or a panel; it was based purely on performance and numbers," Brennan IT chief executive Stephen Sims said.

“Combatting cyber risks is a key strategic business issue for organisations around the world. Like many other businesses, Brennan IT continues to search for ways to proactively improve cybersecurity across the organisation.

"This award recognises that the business has done that successfully and, although the work will never be done with regard to cybersecurity, it confirms Brennan IT’s ongoing proactive commitment to security.”

Sims added that Brennan IT had tailored its security offerings around the Australian Signals Directorate's "essential eight" guidelines. The guidelines are strategies considered as a baseline security requirement for government departments to maintain appropriate cyber hygiene.

Brennan IT has a managed IT security offering with three key components: network security, email security and consulting.

The network security solution centres around Brennan IT's next-gen firewall built on Fortinet, and is sold as a subscription as part of the managed IT security service.

Brennan IT partners with Mimecast for its email security service, which includes filters for Microsoft Exchange, Office 365 and Google Apps to detect customers from malicious content.

The security consulting practice includes a range of services; in particular, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing and payment card industry compliance assessments.

Last year, Brennan IT cracked the $100 million revenue milestone for the first time, telling CRN it had made its biggest-ever investment to upgrade its core network, including major investments in Juniper Networks gear and the launch of a Cisco Meraki managed service this year.
