Acer has launched a laptop buying and advice portal for parents and schools, in another sign of channel players staking their ground in the Australian school BYOD landscape.
Resellers on-board as education partners include ASI Solutions, BES IT Systems, Learning with Technologies, JH Computer Services, ONGC, PCS Australia and Stott & Hoare.
Acer has implemented online BYOD procurement because it allows the vendor to deliver a “costlier, commercial grade” device at an affordable price point.
The BYOD store was advertising 20 devices at the time of writing, including tablets, a Chromebook, notebooks and Ultrabooks, as well as accessories including bags, an eternal DVD drive, LoJack anti-theft device, a mouse and Office Home and Student 2013.
Acer-accredited partners will help institutions with their technology strategies. According to an Acer white paper, the shift to BYOD means that internet filtering, virus protection, social media monitoring and asset protection can “no longer be provided by the school or state education departments due to software licensing arrangements”.
The BYOD site follows the announcement of a BYOD portal for parents by JB Hi-Fi in 2014.
