Two decades ago Australia’s MSPs were mostly small teams focused on fixing problems before they broke.

Today, they find themselves on the front line of cybersecurity, or architecting cloud-first strategies, or even powering AI adoption, for clients that range from the smallest businesses through to some of the nation’s largest enterprises and government agencies.

This transformation hasn’t been linear – it has been buffeted by market forces, an influx of global capital, and a new wave of technologies that are reshaping what it means to be an MSP.

This techpartner.news 2025 State of The MSP Report, by contributing editor Brad Howarth, explores factors shaping the Australian MSP landscape –  from the impact of merger and acquisition activity through to use of AI as a service offering and a tool for self-transformation.

It analyses a market where almost half of all surveyed MSP Index participants (who reported revenue) reported less than $5 million in revenue, but which is ripe for consolidation by larger local players and foreign private equity-backed aggregators.

And it explores how changes in the outside world – and especially in buyer behaviour – are reshaping how MSPs must configure themselves to enter the second half of this decade with confidence, and the choices they will face to stay both relevant and profitable.

As Orro Group chief executive officer Daniel Greengarten said: “If we don’t disrupt ourselves then we will be disrupted.”

Ultimately, this report shines a light on a business sector that is fast moving, dynamic, and inventive – one that is up to the challenge of delivering the technology-driven services that will guide the Australian economy in the 2030s and beyond.

This report uses data from our techpartner.news MSP Index, the global IT Nation peer group program, interviews with MSP decision makers, analysts and MSP advisors and other research.

Our work to collect data about MSP Index members is relatively recent, meaning the data from it in this report is a snapshot of small subset of MSPs in Australia. Our amibition is to continue growing this data, adding to the analysis we provide to MSP Index members. You can contribute to our latest MSP Index industry survey here.
