Cloud services provider Ignia has completed a workplace migration and hardware rollout for mining sector services provider Decmil, to support their latest app offering.
Ignia and Decmil will jointly go to market with Site Diary, an app developed in-house for tracking employee hours, equipment allocations, client reporting, bills and productivity.
To support the product, Ignia rolled out Office 365, Dynamics CRM and Power BI from Microsoft’s local data centres across all of Decmil’s operations. Decmil has since adopted a Windows 8.1 unified model across all its operations, allowing mobile access to Site Diary.
Decmil and Ignia are now going to market with Site Diary, as well as two other in-house developed apps.
The Maps and Rules app simplifies the process of accessing land access rules on worksites, while the Files and Forms app syncs files through Office 365. All three apps have been integrated with SharePoint online as part of the Office 365 roll out.
To support the unified model, Ignia also rolled out around 100 Surface Pro 3 and HP Elite Pad 1000 G2 tablets, and around 150 Lumia 630 and 830 smartphones.
Decmil group manager Jenni Campbell said the upgrade meant its employees could finally access its applications without a desktop computer.
“We had several ambitious design goals,” said Campbell. “The implementation had to be fit for purpose, it had to enable staff to take their work with them on site and let them upload files at any time. Access to SharePoint and OneDrive without VPN is a huge bonus of the implementation.”
“A key element for us is the productivity that can be gained through cloud working, meaning remote workers can log information on site rather than having to return to the office, effectively giving them back a part of their day.”
Decmil recently acquired struggling telco infrastructure company SAS Telecom for approximately $1 million to add to its technology division.
