HP unveils dual core server hardware
HP has added two servers using Intel's new dual-core Itanium chip to its Integrity line of servers.

The Integrity offerings include HP’s latest OpenVMS v8.3 operating system, currently delivering additional security, disaster tolerance and scalable performance for more than 600 applications, with additional ones added on an ongoing basis.

The new HP Integrity rx6600 and rx3600 servers offer mainframe-calibre high availability at entry-level server prices. Available with HP-UX 11i, Microsoft Windows, Linux or OpenVMS operating environments, the servers provide the most flexibility and capacity in their class.

Peter Hall, who is the vice president and general manager, of business critical servers in HP Asia Pacific (including Australia) said the Montecito processor in the Integrity portfolio and replaces the old single core, doubling core of server line.

“These new servers will broaden a reseller's product portfolio,” he said.

An entry level server with two sockets has a recommended retail price of $7,000. However a 64 socket box Integrity server can only be be sold to channel partners purchasing directly through HP.

Hall said the entry level rx6600 and rx3600 servers would also be available to HP resellers.
