D-Link Australia claimed to have witnessed strong interest for its first range of Green Ethernet gigabit switches which are designed to decrease carbon emissions and energy costs by reducing power consumption without sacrificing operation performance and functionality.
The vendor’s Green Ethernet technology can detect a link’s status and cable length and adjust power usage accordingly, and claims to save up to 25 percent of power for each unit used.
Maurice Famularo, marketing director of D-Link Australia said: “The IT industry is one of the biggest consumers of energy, so we are making sure that our products are more carbon friendly. We have looked to make our technology greener, save some money for the user and do our bit for the environment.”
Famularo said D-Link is doing two things to become greener: ensuring its manufacturing process is more Green and making sure its products have more Green functionality such as going into sleep mode when not in use.
“Our Green line of products has seen a 40 percent increase in sales compared to the previous [non-Green] line. You will see more Green products come to market from D-Link and by the end of the year we will probably have another 20 Green products,” he said.
Famularo added that it is just one aspect to ensure D-Link is being Green, it will also assess its supply chain and ask if the delivery process of its products is based around a Green strategy too.
