Computergate merges with CMS and NTL
IT services outfit Computergate Australia has merged with CMS Better On-line Solutions and NTL Computer Solutions on the back of solid revenue growth over the last few years.

“We have merged CMS Better On-line Solutions into our Melbourne office and this will see us go further into business development in areas such as, iSeries connectivity, recruitment, VoIP and managed services,” said Mario Greco, managing director at Computergate.

Greco said the company also merged with Newcastle-based NTL to boost the company with more service offerings in regional NSW. “These are strategic mergers and the companies will fly under the Computergate banner,” said Greco.

“We will also keep on the two existing staff from CMS and the one employee from NTL, which will take our total staff numbers to 16,” he said.

Computergate has been providing service and support for Tandburg Data products, on-site Exabyte support, warranty support for JVC Optical Storage and on-site storage support for Snap and Adaptec, since 2003.

Greco said the company has also opened a new office in Sydney in Newington and has hired a business development manager, a couple of contractors and two full-time technicians.

Recently, the company has been competing with larger organisations and winning business away from competitors, such as KAZ, said Greco.

“We started out providing services for the SME market but we recently won business away from KAZ in the medium enterprise market,” he said.

“We competed against KAZ to provide services to ACL National Parts, a Melbourne-based national distributor of car parts and we won.”

Greco said the company started off as small organisation in 2003 and now we are doubling our financials year-on-year. We are on target to hit $2.5m for the 2005/06 financial year,” said Greco.

“In 2004/05 we made $1.3m and for the 2003-2004 financial period, we only made around $800,000. As we have been doubling our financial earnings, our staff [numbers] have also been doubling. We started with four employees, grew it to eight, last year and now we have 16 staff.”

Despite its growth in the local market, the company has no plans to expand into other regions, Greco said.

“We started off with the promise to provide services for the Australian and New Zealand market. With partners like NZ-based Desktop Technology Services Limited to provide services in that region,” he said.

“We have been dealing with vendors who have asked us to provide services in Asia, but we aren’t ready for the region just yet,” he said.
