Amazon has brought its fully managed graph database service Amazon Neptune to Australia.
As part of AWS, Neptune allows users to build and run applications that work with highly connected datasets and supports graph models Property Graph and World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)'s RDF specifications, along with their respective query languages Apache TinkerPop Gremlin and SPARQL.
Customers in the Asia Pacific (Sydney) AWS region are the latest to receive access to the service, which is already live in seven other regions in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Neptune was announced in November 2017, targeting developers that were using traditional databases to model complex data relationships. The service offers a fully managed solution that can execute queries in an easier-to-write format, while performing well on connected data.
Amazon claims it reduces costs and improves performance, freeing developers from undifferentiated operations like maintenance, patching, backups, and restores.
Some of Neptune’s use cases include social media networks, recommendation engines, driving directions, logistics, diagnostics, fraud detection, and genomic sequencing.
