So Canon really is going to ship its SED televisions, albeit a few years later than originally advertised.
The joint venture with Toshiba is supposed to produce ultra-thin TVs which use very little power and are claimed to be LCD/plasma killers.
Word on the street is that Canon has literally bet the company on this technology, blowing billions in R&D that might take decades to recoup.
Canon is already a leader in several fields so it makes you wonder just why they felt the need to conquer a space they don't even play in now, using a totally new technology that hasn't yet been demonstrated beyond prototype.
We all love to sell, and use, the current range of Canon toys, so let's hope this adventure doesn't turn out to be a company buster.
According to the latest news we should get to find out some time in 2008.
