Is there any end in sight to the broadband wars?
First we had the Ruddards planning to raid the Future Fund to ensure no home would be without 12Mbps broadband. Now we've got the Government heading them off at the pass with its own broadband initiative.
The problem with the Opposition plan was we were going to have to pay for it ourselves. The problem with the Government's plan is we're going to have to pay for it ourselves. Whuh?
That's right, the Fed's new new broadband plan is the old old broadband plan from Telstra, with all regulations removed so everyone can get thoroughly gouged to pay for the thing. And non-Telstra teclos can just get blocked altogether.
Frankly, Rabid would rather blow a wad of public servants superannuation on the fibre optic network. At least then we the people would get a say in who gets to resell the services.
It's that old-fashioned concept of competition which nobody in government seems interested in these days.
